Year 1 and 2 joined together for an internet safety workshop on Safer Internet Day. They looked at creating a username and password which has no personal information in ready to enter their three games based on traditional tales. When entering their traditional tales, they did a drama activity which showed them how easy it was to pretend to be someone else. We became old grandpas, witches, trolls, cats and bunnies. Then the children learnt the three main rules of being online – if they see something they don’t like or makes them feel funny in their tummy they must STOP, GET OFF, TELL.
In Year 3 and Year 4’s workshop, they looked at ‘Game Over’. They focused on the rules of being online and the risks of becoming addicted to the screen. They were taught the correct way to deal with friends and foes on the screen, learning that even if they know there person, the importance of keeping personal information private.
Year 5 and Year 6 discussed both the pros and cons of being online and how the internet has changed over time. They completed a quiz to show their current knowledge and had an open conversation on what they have come across themselves. With Mr Manser, they talked about how to stay safe and the importance of the block button.
